HOTTEA
Ocean & Sky, 2023
THE ARTWORK
Ocean & Sky is an intricate installation created from 5,000 strands of suspended yarn, to evoke a sense of happiness and wonder in the viewer as they enter the space. Drawing inspiration from the parallels between the ocean and sky, HOTTEA sought to capture the vast and endless possibilities embodied by these natural elements.
THE ARTIST
Eric Rieger (b.1992), known as HOTTEA, is an American artist from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Originally a graffiti painter, he turned to ""yarn bombing"" after a transformative jail experience. Using brightly colored yarn, he creates intricate words and images on Minneapolis fences, influenced by family and personal connections. HOTTEA's art gained attention with ""HOTTEA"" seen citywide, evolving into heartfelt tributes and canopy installations over freeways. Indoor exhibits include HAUS Salon and Minneapolis Institute of Art (MIA). Renowned as Minneapolis' Best Street Artist, HOTTEA's work extends internationally to London, Berlin, New York, and Los Angeles, leaving a vibrant mark with his yarn installations.
Ocean & Sea is located at the Alley building, within the passageway.
